End of Course Reflection | EDU 792

While taking EDU 792, I learned so much new information about video production. This is not something I was expected, but it is incredibly appreciated. I'm excited to take away this knowledge from the classes I will teach and while working with my students.

One thing I will take away from this course is the importance of allowing students to create projects in non-traditional ways -- in this case, videos. There is a variety of videos that students can create when producing the information they have learned. From stop-motion animation, green screen videos, and creating a video on PowToon, they can take the knowledge they have learned from the class to a creative medium. Creating these videos not only encourages students to recap the course material, but students are also able to learn new skills related to technology. These videos should not be limited to art classes that are tailored to video production but should make their way into mainstream classes to allow students to have more opportunities to be creative and produce visual material.

Additionally, I will also take away the skills that I have learned related to video production. I particularly enjoyed learning how to create a green screen video. When I originally looked at the assignment that asked to create a green screen video, I was intimidated by the challenge. I do not consider myself skilled in video production so I was afraid this would not be something I could do well in. However, watching videos and practicing the green screen software that I used, OBS Studio, I was able to make a video I was proud of and enjoyed making. I look forward to using green screen technology to make instructional videos for my students. While I am not sure if I will have my own students use green screen technology due to the limited resources and times that we have in class, but I do expect myself to use this technology in my own videos.

Something I found surprising in this class was the relative ease I had while streaming on Twitch and how much I enjoyed it. I streamed myself playing The Sims 4 twice since there were issues on my original stream needed for an assignment. I wasn't upset at having to stream again since this was something I enjoyed. There was a great sense of community and meaning that I found while streaming that I wasn't expecting, but I welcomed. I do look forward to streaming again -- probably a more personal stream like playing The Sims 4 again, but I could see myself streaming and helping my students with assignments in the future.

Something that I wish we learned in the course but was not covered was learning more ways to use FlipGrid with students. I use FlipGrid rarely with my students, but I hope to use it more in the future. There are many features like filters and video effects to use and it is something that connects with Microsoft users -- something our school uses. There are many ways to use FlipGrid in the classroom, but I am not completely confident with using FlipGrid or what other ways we could use the tool with students. I would've enjoyed learning more about the benefits of this platform as well as learning about prompts and projects that FlipGrid would be ideal to use for.
